What is the Research Xackathon?

The X-Culture Research Hackathon — Xackathon — is not just a research conference—it’s an immersive, hands-on experience where researchers collaborate intensively to develop high-quality research papers.

By the end of the Xackathon, you will have:

  • A well-defined research topic
  • Collaborating co-authors
  • A clear timeline for submitting a paper to a conference (e.g., AOM 2026) or journal

The event provides unparalleled support, including access to secondary data, assistance with data collection, and developmental feedback.

 

X-Culture Data

X-Culture has one of the largest databases on international teamwork and virtual collaboration—tracking over 3,000 variables across multiple levels and methods.

 

Why This Model?

Traditionally, researchers collect their own data, but most datasets remain underutilized. The Xackathon fosters collaborative data sharing, ensuring research potential is fully realized.

Whether you want to analyze existing data or collect new data, this event provides an ideal environment for cutting-edge, publishable research.

What’s New in 2025?

This year, accommodations are booked separately, giving participants more flexibility. Upon acceptance, you’ll receive a booking code for special rates at CABINN Apartments.

Registration & Costs

  • The Xackathon Registration fee is $565, which includes administration, facilities, meals during the Xackathon, social events, and a commemorative polo shirt.
  • Accommodations: Booked individually at CABINN Apartments, Copenhagen
    • Single Room: 465 DKK/night (7+ nights) | 950 DKK/night (1-6 nights)
    • Double Room: 640 DKK/night (7+ nights) | 1,165 DKK/night (1-6 nights)

All rooms include a kitchenette, and a communal kitchen is available.

Note: AOM conference hotels cost ~$300/night. Staying at CABINN Apartments for both events can significantly reduce costs and offset the Xackathon registration fee.

Intensive research collaboration, brainstorming, and data work

  • Day 1 – July 22
    • Arrival & Welcome Reception
    • Group Oral Presentations (5-min summaries of research ideas)
  • Day 2 – July 23
    • Session 1: Present initial findings & discuss challenges
    • Session 2: Work on data analysis & methods
    • Evening: Collaborative Cooking, Walking Tour, Socializing
  • Day 3 – July 24
    • Finalizing literature reviews & methodology
    • Present research objectives & submission plans
    • Peer feedback session
    • Closing with recognition
  • Post-Xackathon at AOM (July 25-29, 2025)
    • Casual meet-ups for meals and social events
    • Continue working on papers

Funding Opportunities
