The Selection Phase

FRIDAY, December 22, 2018

  • Initial invitation: Invitations sent to the best X-Culture graduates.
  • Students whose performance in X-Culture was rated highly receive these initial invitations.
  • Typically, we invite students whose peer evaluations were above 4.0 (“good” or higher), whose team’s reports were rated above 6.0 (“excellent” or higher); who did not miss any of the deadlines throughout the project, who provided thoughtful and insightful comments in the weekly and post-project surveys; and those recommended by their professors.
  • Normally, students ranked in Top 20% are invited to submit their applications.

Sunday, March 24, 2019

  • Application deadline. Students who received the invitations and want to attend the event must submit their applications.

FRIDAY, Wednesday, March 27, 2019

  • Selection of the 150 finalists, official invitations.
  • Selection: Not everyone who is invited will apply. We expect approximately 500 applications from the initial pool. The applications will be reviewed and 150 students will receive their formal invitation to the Symposium. The preference will be given to the students with the best performance records (highest peer evaluations, best reports, most insightful comments, best results on the tests), but other factors are also taken into account (e.g., strong recommendations, other achievements, etc.). We will also try to maximize the group diversity, so students from under-represented countries may be given a little preference.
Members of winning teams and students who went through the Coaching Program will be given top priority and will be automatically included in the final group of 150.
  • Final Decision: The final list of 150 attendees (approximately Top 0.3% of all X-Culture participants) will be finalized on this date and the 150 applicants will receive their formal invitations and Canadian visa support letters (if needed). If requested, they will receive support letters that they can present to potential sponsors.
Students not included in the final Top 150 group will be ranked and put on a waiting list. If any of the 150 finalists do not apply by the deadline, next person on the waiting list will be given the opportunity.

FRIDAY, April 5, 2019

  • Registration: The 150 selected attendees will have until 11:59 pm (EST), Friday, April 5, 2019, to register for the event (pay the registration fee). If any of the students from the group of 150 fail to register by this deadline, their spot goes to the next person on the waiting list.
  • An extension may be granted in exceptional cases, but the students must inform the event organizers in advance.

  1. I wonder that if applying for this event via website will have similar selection evaluation compare to apply via link from invitation letter in email or not?
