Jobs On-Campus Long-Term

Research / Administrative Assistant

Job Description:

I am Dr. Vas Taras (Bryan School of Business and Economics). I specialize in International Business, particularly global virtual teams, cross-cultural psychology, and international business strategy.

I am hiring a research/administrative assistant to help me manage my X-Culture project. X-Culture is an international business competition that attracts about 4,000 MBA and undergraduate business students from over 100 universities in 40 countries on all 6 continents every semester. Go to www.X-Culture.org and watch this video to learn more about the project.

The job will involve working with data, managing email correspondence, online research, and other research and project administration functions.

Pay / Hours:

$3,000 per semester, which is approximately $200/week for 15 hours of work per week.

Selection:

An ideal candidate is an undergrad (freshman or sophomore), but Master’s or Ph.D. students are also welcome to apply.

To be considered for the job, email me the following information:

  1. Your name.
  2. Program and year of study.
  3. Future career aspirations (100 words max).

We will then schedule a meeting in which I will ask you three things:

  1. To write a short description of the X-Culture project (this is to tests your writing skills and your ability to find and retain information).
  2. To explain to me how VLOOKUP works (this is to tests MS Excel skills, and if you don’t know what VLOOKUP is, your ability to google and learn on your own how to use simple Excel functions).
  3. To explain to me how Mail Merge works (this is to tests MS Office skills, and if you don’t know what Mail Merge is, your ability to google and learn on your own how to use simple MS Office tools).

This ad is deliberately long and boring, because its purpose is to recruit a person who can work through long and boring documents and repel applicants whose attention span is limited to a headline. So if you’re still reading, you’re already better than 90% of the applicants. As a reward for your attention to detail, here is a tip: put the word “Crowdsourcing” in the subject line of your email and I’ll know you are one of a few applicants who actually read this paragraph 😉

I’d like to hire an assistant ASAP, so the sooner you apply, the greater are your chances.
